A former Super Eagles Captain, Sunday Oliseh, has been appointed to the International Football Association Board (IFAB).
The former Super Eagles coach and captain made this known on his X account on Monday as he expressed joy at joining IFAB’s board.
“Thrilled to announce my appointment to the International Football Association Board (IFAB)! IFAB is the global guardian of football’s laws, responsible for determining the laws of football, shaping the beautiful game for players and fans worldwide. Honoured to contribute to its mission,” he said on X.
In recent years, Oliseh worked closely with FIFA, including as a member of its Technical Study Group, offering analysis and insight at major tournaments such as the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio and the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Oliseh earned more than 60 caps for the Super Eagles and played a key role in the team that won the 1994 Atlanta Olympics Football Gold in 1996, where they defeated Brazil and Argentina in the semi-final and the final, respectively.
The appointment to the IFAB board will see the Nigerian legend work with some of football’s most influential figures, including legendary Arsenal boss Arsène Wenger.
The IFAB, which was established in 1886, determines the rules and regulations of the game of football. It helps to make the game of football a standard one through laws that guide the game, especially in international competitions.
