Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has welcomed key members of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Allied Peoples Movement (APM) to his office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, in a notable political shift in the state.
The delegation, led by a former Chairman of the PDP in the state, Dr Sikirulai Ogundele, and Adekunle Abdulkabir Akinlade, engaged in discussions that are widely viewed as a precursor to their anticipated formal alignment with the All Progressives Congress (APC), the ruling party in the state.
Other prominent members of the delegation were Dr Ekelojumati, Olowo Fuja, and several other influential grassroots mobilisers from various local councils.
The meeting, which was held behind closed doors, on Monday, was characterised as cordial and strategic, signalling a pivotal moment in the political reconfiguration ahead of the upcoming elections.
Abiodun expressed his appreciation for the delegation’s commitment to fostering unity within Ogun State, highlighting the APC’s dedication to inclusive governance and sustainable development.
“This is not merely a political manoeuvre; it is a patriotic decision aimed at consolidating progress, promoting stability, and building a future of shared prosperity for the people,” he stated.
Ogundele, while speaking on behalf of the delegation, praised the governor’s open-door leadership and the transformative initiatives being implemented across the state. He affirmed that the visit marks a significant step toward solidifying their decision to join the APC.
Akinlade, another respected political figure and former member of the House of Representatives and former gubernatorial candidate of the APM, reiterated the group’s intention to enhance the APC’s mission and contribute to the ongoing growth and peace of Ogun State.
However, the delegation is set to make their formal declaration and integration into the APC in the forthcoming weeks, a development that promises to strengthen the ruling party and highlights Abiodun’s emerging role as a unifying force within Nigeria’s political arena.
