School reiterates commitment to academic excellence, shines in 2025 JAMB examination

Durable Comprehensive High School has reiterated its commitment to academic excellence with an impressive performance in the 2025 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination.

Out of the number of students who sat for the test, 95 per cent scored above 200, which the school said it’s a notable achievement amid a national average where over 70 per cent of candidates failed to reach the 200-mark threshold, even after a nationwide retake.

Leading the cohort is Ariove Blessed Oghenekeno, who scored 362, followed by Tijani Malik with 346, Oyebajo Oyebobola with 345, and Nduenso Blessing with 301. All four students surpassed the prestigious 300-mark threshold.

This year’s JAMB cycle faced unprecedented challenges, including irregularities caused by a computing error in the initial results. Many students nationwide were required to retake the exams. However, the revised results at Durable Comprehensive High School showcased the students’ true capabilities, with many achieving dramatic improvements.

The school’s Student Coordinator, Mrs. Ani, credited the impressive results to a collaborative effort.

“The students were able to achieve such great scores as a result of better synergy between the management, parents, teachers, and the students themselves,” she said.

The Vice Principal, Mr. Sina highlighted the recent upgrades to the school’s IT infrastructure as a key factor.

“It made it easier for students to practice and familiarize themselves with computer-based tests, boosting their confidence and performance,” he explained.

He added that the school established in 2003, located at 22 Ilori Street, Ijegun, Lagos, has consistently set a high academic standard.

“The school attributes its sustained success to a team of dedicated teachers who combine practical instruction with IT-driven teaching methods, creating an engaging, personalized, and impactful learning environment.

“Durable Comprehensive High School has consistently outperformed national averages for the past five years, and this year’s JAMB results further cement its reputation as a hub of academic excellence.

“Admissions are now open for both primary and secondary levels, with day and boarding options available. The school invites prospective students to join a legacy of brilliance, purpose, and ambition,” Sina said.

Top scorers shared their reflections on the journey. Ariove Blessed Oghenekeno, who initially received a much lower score, remarked, “I was shocked and disappointed after discovering the discrepancy in the previous score (175). However, the school taught us how to manage our time by engaging us in CBT sessions during our extension classes, which helped greatly. I also formulated the JAMB CBT centre and engaged in multiple CBT sessions, training harder on saving time.”

Oyebajo Oyebobola recounted: “I was shocked and dismayed at the sight of such an unbefitting result (169). The school aided us in achieving such a great score by engaging us with numerous extension classes and newly introduced CBT activities. The most notable thing I did was extensive revision and numerous CBT practices.”

Tijani Malik added: “I felt an overwhelming sense of frustration upon discovering the disparity in my exam result, which starkly contradicted my expectation (152). But the school assisted me in achieving such a great feat by introducing CBT sessions. The most significant step I took was revisiting my jotted points from previous reading sessions.”
