Police recover stolen Prado, other vehicles traced to Ghana, Niger

The Nigeria Police Force has recovered a Toyota Prado belonging to the Federal Government, along with other vehicles that were stolen in Nigeria and trafficked to Ghana and Niger Republic.

Police spokesperson ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi said on Sunday that the recoveries were made through joint efforts between the Nigeria Police and INTERPOL offices in Ghana and Niger.

Adejobi claims that one of the recovered cars, a 2020 Toyota Prado, is owned by a federal government organisation, was stolen during a recent robbery in Abuja, and was discovered in Accra, Ghana.

According to Adejobi, three suspects were detained in Ghana and are now facing charges in an Accra court.

He noted that the vehicle was returned back to Nigeria and handed over to the concerned agency.

In a similar operation, the policeman revealed that a Toyota Hilux (2018 model) belonging to another federal government agency in Nigeria was recovered.

“The vehicle had been stolen from a staff of the agency in Utako District, FCT Abuja, on 18th October 2024. Through extensive investigation and international cooperation facilitated by INTERPOL NCB Niamey, the vehicle was tracked to Agadez, Niger Republic, and officially handed over at the Nigeria-Niger border (Ilela/Konni) to a senior staff representing the agency,” Adejobi said.

He added that the police force is also in the process of recovering two more vehicles, a Toyota Land Cruiser SUV and a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado SUV, which were stolen in Abuja in May 2025 and later sold in Niamey, Niger Republic.

The police force, however, urged all citizens to register their vehicles on the Police Electronic Platforms and take all necessary precautions to enhance the chances of swift recovery in the unfortunate event of theft.
