Police foil armed robbery, recover firearm, motorcycles in Rivers

Operatives of the Rivers State Police Command’s Hawk Tactical Team have successfully foiled an armed robbery operation, recovering a firearm, ammunition, and two motorcycles used by the suspects.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, stated yesterday that the incident occurred on May 15, 2025, at Igbo Etche Junction, where armed hoodlums had blocked the road and were robbing unsuspecting members of the public.

She disclosed that the police received a distress call at about 6:40 p.m. and swiftly mobilised the Hawk Team to the scene. Upon sighting the police, the hoodlums fled into a nearby bush, abandoning their operational items during a hot pursuit.

Recovered at the scene were two operational motorcycles (a black Opel Sum and a black Quilink), a European high-quality Emerald 12-gauge pump-action rifle, and three cartridges (two live AAA cartridges and one expended AAA cartridge).

Iringe-Koko explained that the items have been secured as exhibits, and efforts are intensifying to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

“The Rivers State Police Command remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of citizens, and efforts will continue to bring perpetrators to justice. Further updates will be communicated as the investigation progresses,” she said.
