Kano bans Kauyawa Day Events, suspends all event centres

The Kano State Censorship Board has taken steps to minimise the menace of Kauyawa Day Events by suspending all event centres in the state to maintain moral standards.

This was announced at a press conference on Saturday by the Executive Secretary of the Kano State Censorship Board, Abba El-Mustapha, shortly after a management meeting.

According to Mustapha, the action is part of the board’s effort to promote morality, adding that it is in line with the board’s law as amended by the Kano State House of Assembly in 2025 and subsequently assented to by the Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf.

He further stated that the law grants the board the authority to regulate and monitor the activities of DJs and all event centres within the state.
He said, “Consequently, all activities at event centres in the state are suspended until further notice. As of today, organising any event under the name of Villagers Day Events (Kauyawa) is deemed an offense.”

He also called on all community leaders and security agencies, including Hisbah, the Kano State Vigilante Group, and neighboring watch organisations to collaborate with the board to ensure full compliance with this ban on Kauyawa Day Events.
