Flood devastates Afijio communities in Oyo, residents seek govt’s intervention

A heavy flood on Saturday wreaked havoc on several communities in the Afijio Local Council of Oyo State, destroying property and farmlands worth millions of naira.

The affected communities, including Ilu-Aje and Imini, were left in ruins, forcing many residents to seek refuge in neighbouring areas. Victims lamented their losses, with some claiming they had lost farmlands and other valuables.

One of the victims, Àkeem Olatunbosun, said: “We cannot quantify our losses, which include farmland and other valuables. We are calling on the government to come to our aid to mitigate its effect on our respective families.”

The Oyo State Road Maintenance Agency (OYSROMA) expressed condolences to the affected families and communities.

In a statement, the chairman, ‘Busoye Ogunlade, acknowledged the devastation caused by the flooding and assured residents of the agency’s commitment to addressing the situation.

“My heart goes out to everyone affected by the devastating floods. May the love and support of family and friends bring comfort during this difficult time,” Ogunlade stated.

He added that measures would be taken to prevent a recurrence of such disasters and provide necessary assistance to the affected communities.
