2027: PDP youth coalition backs Tinubu, hails Wike as key asset

A coalition of over 1,000 youth groups under the aegis of the PDP Youth Vanguard for Renewed Hope has declared support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, citing his performance, national interest, and inclusive leadership as reasons for their endorsement.

In a statement issued on Sunday and signed by its National President, Hon. Charles Onoja, the group also praised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, describing him as “the greatest political asset the PDP has produced in recent times.”

The coalition applauded Wike’s recent declaration during a live interview on Channels Television, in which he pledged to lead President Tinubu’s re-election campaign in Rivers State — despite remaining a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“His declaration reflects courage and clarity,” the statement read. “It marks a shift from party allegiance to national interest. He has chosen unity and development over division.”

Onoja stated that the group’s endorsement of Tinubu is grounded in what it views as tangible achievements of his administration, particularly in infrastructure development, education reforms including the student loan scheme, job creation, and advancements in the aviation sector.

“We are not interested in partisan rhetoric,” Onoja said. “Young people across the country, especially in the North, are focused on results. President Tinubu has demonstrated leadership, and we will support him with action.”

According to the coalition, mobilisation has already commenced across all six geopolitical zones, with operational structures in the 774 local government areas. The campaign strategy includes town hall meetings, campus outreach, interfaith sensitisation, and digital engagement.

“This is not defection — it’s direction,” Onoja explained. “Our support for Tinubu is not about abandoning the PDP but about aligning with a leadership model that is delivering.”

The coalition also warned PDP leaders against turning on Wike for his political position, cautioning that internal intolerance may alienate more young party members.

“Rather than vilify Wike, the PDP should listen to him. His posture resonates with millions of young Nigerians who want a more pragmatic and effective political approach,” the statement noted.

The group disclosed plans to unveil the details of its mobilisation agenda, tagged *‘10 Million Youth Votes for Renewed Hope’*, at a forthcoming youth summit in Abuja. The event, it said, will be a strategic platform to unify youth-led political engagement ahead of the 2027 elections.

“We will speak clearly with our PVCs. Our message is simple: where there is leadership, there is loyalty. Tinubu has earned both,” the statement concluded.

As of press time, neither the PDP national leadership nor Minister Wike had issued an official response to the coalition’s position.
