Fast-rising Afrobeats artiste, Chimamanda Pearl Chukwuma, better known as Qing Madi, has stirred up another controversy by noting that the Nigerian music industry is dark.

Her voice to the growing number of Nigerian artistes raising concerns about the troubling realities within the music industry.

In recent Instagram story, the 18-year-old singer wrote, “The industry is so dark,” alluding to unseen pressures, politics, and manipulations that many young talents silently endure.

Her comments come shortly after fellow artiste Reekado Banks alleged that a “demonic” music executive is working against rising stars.

Qing Madi also recalled being criticised last year for sharing her Christian faith online, saying she lost thousands of followers after preaching about Jesus. However, she stood her ground, saying she had no regrets.

Qing Madi’s revelation reflects past comments by Kizz Daniel, who described the industry as a cartel controlled by a powerful cabal.

Omah Lay has also opened up about battling depression, citing pressure from fame and the isolating nature of the business.

The conversation gained traction following the death of rapper Mohbad, whose struggles and death earlier alleged label harassment and bully.

Artistes like Bella Shmurda, Vector, BNXN, and Iyanya have all shared similar experiences, from industry bullying to suppression of creative freedom. Even gospel singer Chidimma Ekile, who left secular music, once described the industry as “spiritually draining.”
